Makaila Mason

North Texas Chapter Representative

Makaila Mason is an early childhood special education teacher currently supporting and learning alongside young children with severe/profound developmental delays. After completing undergraduate studies in business administration, Makaila decided to switch gears, follow her heart, and pursue graduate studies in Child Development, thus beginning a commitment to the facilitation of high quality early childhood learning experiences for all children. For the past 15 years, she has worked alongside dedicated colleagues serving children and families in private preschool programs, military childcare, public preschool classrooms, and Head Start settings across New England, in Japan, and now here in Texas. Makaila has been a NAEYC member for her entire career and credits the NAEYC educator standards for providing the guidance and accountability necessary for maintaining a commitment to the highest standards. As the North Texas chapter representative, Makaila is looking forward to building connections across DFW and supporting the needs of a diverse network of professionals.

Makaila holds a B.S. in Business Administration from Elon University, an M.A.T. in Child Development from Tufts University, completed further studies in educational leadership at Lamar University, and currently holds Texas teacher certification for Early Childhood-6th Grade, Special Education, ESL, and Principal as an Instructional Leader. Her current interests and pursuits include adapting specialized materials to meet the needs of children with limited mobility and more significant cognitive processing challenges, so that these unique learners have the equal opportunity to access the preschool classroom alongside their peers.
